CHRIS CALOGERAS is the founder of C-AID Consultants.
Chris has almost 40 years experience in the fishing and seafood Industry, including nearly 20 years experience in fisheries management within government and six years senior operational experience in the fishing and seafood industry. He has worked as a fishing and seafood industry and natural resource management and capacity building consultant since 2001.
Chris’s formal qualifications include a Doctorate in Business, a Master in Business Administration – Natural Resource Management, a Graduate Diploma in Fisheries Management, a Diploma in Environmental Science and a Certificate III in Seafood Processing. Chris is a graduate of the National Seafood Industry Leadership Program.
While in Government, Chris managed multi-disciplinary Aquatic Resource Management Programs that were responsible for Wild Harvest Resource Management, Marine Parks and Environment, Data Management, Education, Legislation, and Recreational Research, as well as coordinating a large range of external projects. The major focus of his team was to ensure that management arrangements represented ecologically sustainable, economically optimal and socially just utilisation of aquatic resources within a specific legislative framework. Chris also lead liaison with a variety of stakeholder groups regarding aquatic resource management issues, chaired meetings of statutory and non-statutory committees and provided detailed high level advice to Government.
While in the private sector of the seafood industry Chris provided advice and assistance to an export focused seafood company. In this role he had wide ranging responsibilities including preparing RD&E programs, developing responses to environmental management requirements, overseeing marketing and export strategic direction, preparing business contracts, coordinating legal issues and developing formal operational and management guidelines, including a TQMS (Total Quality Management System) for the company which included user guides for English as a 2nd language staff. He also developed the extensive logistics and support network necessary to allow the company, suppliers and clients to source seafood product from remote areas for distribution throughout Australia and various overseas destinations. During his tenure with the company they were awarded the NT Exporter of the Year award.
Chris has also acted as an Industry spokesperson/expert at a range of forums, such as; NT Primary Industry Training Advisory Council, a number of FRDC project planning committees, SeaNet Steering Committee and Reference Group, Industry Advisory Committees, Industry Chair and NTSC Board member, Queensland Fisheries Ministerial Advisory Committee.
