The Consultant

CHRIS CALOGERAS is the founder of C-AID Consultants and has over 30 years experience in the seafood and fishing Industry.

Chris has over 20 years experience in fisheries management and administration within the Northern Territory (NT) Government and six years senior operational experience in the seafood industry. He has worked as a fishing industry, natural resource and environmental management consultant since 2001. 

Chris’s formal qualifications include a Masters in Marine Resource Management, a Graduate Diploma in Fisheries Management, a Diploma in Environmental Science and a Certificate III in Seafood Processing. He is currently completing his Business Doctorate.

While in Government Chris managed multi-disciplinary Aquatic Resource Management Programs teams that were responsible for Wild Harvest Resource Management, Marine Parks and Environment, Data Management, Education, Legislation, and Recreational Research, as well as coordinating a large range of external projects. The major focus of his team was to ensure that management arrangements represented ecologically sustainable, economically optimal and socially just utilisation of aquatic resources within a specific legislative framework.  

In this role, Chris also lead the liaison with a variety of stakeholder groups regarding aquatic resource management issues, chaired meetings of statutory and non-statutory committees and provided detailed high level advice to Government. His wide range of experience has seen him represent the NT at forums, including, fishery and marine park advisory committees, National Task Force for Marine Protected Areas and the planning team for the development of the NT’s Strategy for the Conservation of Marine Biodiversity. 

While in the private sector of the seafood industry Chris provided high level assistance to an export focused seafood company. In this role he had wide ranging responsibilities including preparing R&D programs, developing responses to environmental management requirements, overseeing marketing and export strategic direction, preparing business contracts, coordinating legal issues and developing formal operational and management guidelines, including a TQMS (total quality management system) for the company which included user guides for English as a 2nd language staff. He also developed the extensive logistics and support network necessary to allow the company, suppliers and clients to source seafood product from remote areas for distribution throughout Australia and various overseas destinations. 

Chris has also acted as an Industry spokesperson on the NT Primary Industry Training Advisory Board, FRDC project planning committee, Crab Fishery Advisory Committee and the Crab Fishery Assessment Group.
